I've just been half watching a cookery program where the chef was extolling the values of muntjac deer. He said they're the most widely available wild deer in Britain and is a totally sustainable supply and in a way ethical as they're beginning to be seen as a pest (his words not mine). It got me thinking, didn't we say the same thing about cod being sustainable years ago? I'm old enough to remember the panic when it was realised that cod wouldn't last forever. I'm getting the feeling that if muntjac becomes the latest "in thing" it'll end up being hunted to almost extinction...
