Safety on zebra crossings

We've all been there, crossing a zebra crossing and a car completely ignores this and doesn't stop, almost running you over. We've recently had a crossing installed near us, a few hundred yards from a school. Now I understand the reasoning of this - safety for the children etc - but the only problem is because it's just a beacon crossing (no traffic lights) hardly anyone takes any notice of it. I've lost track of the amount of times I've stood waiting to cross and three or four cars have ignored me and carried on. Yesterday Andy was nearly hit by a car that swerved to the other side of the road so it didn't have to stop while he was crossing, so he decided to take action. Today while waiting to cross a car came speeding up the road, so Andy got his phone out and aimed the camera at the car. The driver strangely enough decided to stop Smilie_PDT
