Most of the time the various shops found around Neopia are a good bargain and worth buying from if you can find any with stock. Here is a list of the shops to avoid as they're really not worth your hard earned Neopoints.

TikiTack - Mystery Island.

Very over-priced. You tend to win most of what he sells at some point or other from the Tombola, but if you really want something he's stocking it's better to do a Shop Wizard search for it. Nine times out of ten you'll find what you're after priced at next to nothing.
A couple of examples:
Palm Fan. TikiTack 225nps. Shop Wiz 1np.
Toy Sail Boat. TikiTack 319ns. Shop Wiz 1np.
Bottle of Black Sand. TikiTack 301nps. Shop Wiz 50nps.

Again, far too expensive to be worth it. You can find most items priced much more reasonably (if not cheaper at least lol) at the Trading Post, or so I'm told. I've not needed anything sold there as I don't Battledome with my pets, and a lot of the stock is weapons. The rest seems to be very expensive toys, with an odd paint brush or other item thrown in.
Example:
A Baby Paint Brush is being sold in the Hidden Tower for 600,000nps. They're being sold on the Trading Post for 590,000nps. Not much of a difference, but you can buy a lot with 10,000nps.
