There are a number of ways to do this, these include:
Grooming
Pasture time
Apple
Turnip (gives an energy boost also)
Salt stone (gives an energy boost also)
Lessons/rides/training (these will also deplete energy at the same time)
And another thing I found out today, stallions get a morale boost by covering mares, I kid you not!
