We're getting there slowly... The kids room is finished (hurrah!) but we've still got the wallpapering to finish off. Hopefully it'll be done for tomorrow evening...
Last night we had a bonfire to get rid of a lot of the stuff the previous tenants had left. The landlord's mum and wife popped round and suggested the bonfire as the council had only taken a small amount (we'd called them and arranged for them to pick it up as it wasn't our rubbish) apparantly the stuff they left wasn't taken because it was "too wet" hmmm... That's kinda what happens if you have to leave stuff outside... Still, it's all gone now lol all apart from a fridge and about 6 tv screens which we've put in the driveway for the scrap wagon to pick up. The bonfire ended up being absolutely massive - the neighbours came and got rid of any burnable rubbish they had too. It was quite hilarious as we'd arranged for the fire brigade to come and do a safety check on the house and fit new smoke detectors, and they turned up in their fire engine about halfway through the bonfire LOL all the neighbours went "omg" and disappeared because they thought someone had reported the bonfire haha
I'd forgotten just how scary fire actually is. I made sure we had buckets of water ready, but they wouldn't have been any use if we'd had to use them anyway as the fire was so hot we couldn't get anywhere near it. I spent most of the time upstairs watching from the back bedroom window because it was far too hot to stand in the kitchen doorway comfortably. Once it had died down to a manageable level it was lovely sat out on the back step with a glass of wine, chatting to the neighbours kids who'd come round for a nosey.
They're good kids, the eldest (around 10) helped me to move the fridge, as I was moving the sack barrow up to it he tilted it so I could get it under and then helped steady it as I moved it round the front - I said to him "I can tell you've done this before" lol the rest of them set about moving my herb planters so I could move the fridge past them through the gate, it was just like having my own little army haha
