(AP) Congress has dropped legislation that would have expanded hate crime laws to include attacks on gays after it became clear the measure wouldn't pass the House, aides said Thursday.
The bill, sponsored by Sen. Edward Kennedy, was widely supported by Democrats and even some moderate Senate Republicans. But because it was attached to a major defense policy bill that would have authorized more money for the Iraq war, many anti-war Democrats said they would oppose it.

If the legislation is passed once and for all, it eliminates an item from their list of platitudes in campaign speeches. The Republican and Democrat parties are strange bedfellows, and they exploit these vain matters in an effort to maintain the illusion that they are divided.
It's all they have going for them in their battle against third parties cutting themselves a substantial piece of the money pie. The majority of Republicans in office are liberals, and the majority of Democrats are Socialists. Your choices are dumb and dumber within the present monopoly.
