Japanese Scientists Create Fearless MouseJapanese Scientists Create Fearless Mouse
Since the mouse had nasal cells removed via genetic tampering, its failure in reacting with fear to the presence of a cat (Domestic cat known to be amicable) could mean that the sole method of feline threat acknowledgment, among others, is olfactory-based.
I'd like to know if the research team doused an inanimate object with feline scent gland secretions as a control to test a normal mouse's reaction. Yeah, that's right, I didn't call it a non-disabled mouse, I won't, and you can't make me.
If you blind-fold a man and aim a gun at his head, he's not going to fear for his life, because he won't see the gun. It doesn't follow that he's lost his self-preservation fear response to firearms pointed at close range to his skull.

No, recognition of feline threat is hardwired in the mouse's sense of smell. The inference drawn by the scientists appears to be too deep.
