Foods You Never Knew That You Hated

Are you a chocolate lover? I doubt it. Buy yourself an 8 oz. brick of pure, unsweetened chocolate to take the test. I found it for $2.25 at a discount food store, but expect to pay $3.50 at one of the other retail outlets. It doesn't appear to be available at the mega stores, despite their supply of groceries.

I began eating 1 oz. of unsweetened chocolate per day and am now up to day 11 or 12. After the second day, my expectations changed and I now look forward to eating it. It does taste bitter compared to the mixture including cream and sugar, but I'm thankful for whatever free radicals are being purged from my system via anti-oxidants. I'm not sure if it's one of the benefits of eating pure chocolate or not, but my dreams have been much more vivid than usual, including a greater frequency of flying.

Back to the foods people hate, I once caught my best friend's sister sprinkling sugar on a tomato. I asked her why she didn't like tomatoes. Her face crumpled and she fired back that she was eating one.

I reminded her that she hadn't answered my question. She didn't know what I was talking about. I then advised her of the simple truth that applying sugar illustrated her love for the condiment, not the produce in its original state. The same applies to baked potatoes (which I've eaten completely plain for years, much to the chagrin of waitresses), coffee, salad (Can you eat it without dressing?), and many other foods doctored for flavor.

Dried cranberries are an excellent substitute for dressing on salad if you're watching calories. Carrot Apple Raisin Salad, which usually includes mayonnaise in the recipe, works very well with lemon yogurt in lieu of the mayo. Peach yogurt is another alternative if you're the sort of person who associates all lemon flavors with household cleaning products. When I was a boy I swore off root beer due to its peppermint flavor strikingly similar to Pepto-bismol.

Ohhh I love pure chocolate, yes it's bitter, but I like that, it prevents me eating too much in one go Smilie_PDT

I know what you mean about "flavour doctoring", I much prefer plain foods to heavily spiced or flavoured foods. One of my favourite dishes is a jacket potato with just a smear of non-dairy margarine on it to take any dryness away, or a bowl of plain pasta with a few fresh herbs and some olive oil over the top. I often eat salad without dressing too. I hardly eat food that isn't freshly prepared from raw ingredients now, I like to know exactly what goes in it. At the moment I buy things like hummous, but I'm going to have a shot at making my own soon. (btw, a wholemeal bread roll with hummous and fresh parsley leaves is delicious)

I'm funny about tomatoes, I don't like them unless they're homegrown, the shop bought ones seem to have no flavour at all, and seem to be more acidic than the ones strgith off the plant. I've also noticed that as I've grown older foods I used to hate with a passion are actually nice now, mushrooms, cucumber, cottage cheese, olives to name a few. I still can't stand celery or cauliflower though lol

Out of curiosity, I inspected the health label on the box, and I learned that I'm only consuming 46% of my recommended daily allowance of saturated fat (1 oz. = 2 servings). I'll have to increase my dosage to 2 oz. per day and find an alternate source for the additional 8% of fat.
