Earthly Wrongdoings = Spiritual LessonsI've been listening to conservative talk radio here in America in recent months. While I agree with the majority of the hosts' stances, one discussion that has caught my attention recently is the focus upon a phenomenon called moral relativity. Congressman Jim McDermott made a statement this past July regarding terrorism being in the eye of the beholder.
I disagree with Mr. McDermott, but I also disagree with the concept of ultimate evil. Terrorism is a crime worthy of punishment on Earth, and I have no objection to the perpetrators and sponsors of such acts being captured, imprisoned, or killed if necessary. I view the Islamic Fascists as morally confused, frightened, and spiritually misguided, not evil.
I guess the point that I'm making is that it is indeed possible to maintain a solid moral and ethical core without succumbing to fears of pure evil. Wasting energy hoping that enemies to peace and freedom are doomed to pits of fire beyond this life is fruitless, and hate breeds nothing but one's own emotional depletion. Why not accept the opponents of peace as souls like myself with more to learn?
