SYDNEY, Feb 5 (Reuters Life!) -
Fancy getting away from it all? One of Australia's most luxurious island homes is on the market and compared to prices for similar houses in Sydney, it's a relative bargain at around A$7 million (2.8 million pounds).
The Balinese-inspired retreat called Tradewinds sits on Hamilton Island off the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef and boasts panoramic South Pacific views.
Tradewinds has five bedrooms in the main house and a self-contained queen bedroom pavilion linked by an infinity-edge pool and is surrounded by a lush garden of bougainvillea, frangipani, kentia palms and a Moreton Bay fig tree.
Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure an uninterrupted view of passing yachts, and the whole house is designed to be opened up to create an indoor/outdoor living area.
"Tradewinds is for the family desiring complete privacy, security, total relaxation, and impeccable levels of comfort. The ability to entertain here is unsurpassed," says Christie's Great Estates on-line advertisement (www.christiesgreatestates.com)
A Christie's spokesman said Tradewinds was expected to fetch around A$7 million. That's around the same price as a much smaller luxury home with Sydney Harbour views, but way short of the top end of the Sydney market.
