Below is a handy guide to places on Neopets that will provide items/neopoints/bonuses with little effort.
Please note that using these tips on side accounts could result in your account being frozen!
Side account information: http://www.neopets.com/~Akaunts
Keep an eye on the News link
This is found in the left-hand links section, underneath the Neoboards link. Sometimes there is information on freebies you can pick up, for example Cap'n Threelegs (Krawk Island – The Academy) will accept certain breeds of pet for free training on special days.
Tarla’s Toolbar Treasures
Contained within a free toolbar provided by Neopets. Will not work on AOL browser. Works fine for me on Internet Explorer.
The Soup Kitchen
Provides food for pets as long as you have less than 3,000nps in total. The Soup Faerie will tell you if you have too many nps to be eligible. Can be reached either through the Market Place or via the Pet Central page (Feed Pet).
The Money Tree
A place to pick up free items. Be warned though it's not often you get one, and you have to be quick; if you're on anything less than Broadband you stand no chance as all the items will have gone before the page loads.
Create a bank account
This is free to do, and not only can you store all your neopoints safely, each day you can collect interest on your balance. The interest must be collected before any transactions are made.
Create a shop
This costs 150nps for the basic shop which can store up to 5 items. Upgrade prices are displayed as you progress through the shop sizes (5 item increments). Tip: Use the Shop Wizard to guage prices of items. A lot of the free items can be sold for quite a profit.
Terror Mountain
Happy Valley
Advent Calendar - In the Advent period (From Dec 1st) will give out free random gifts, one visit per day.
The Ice Caves
The Snowager - You need to find a time when it is asleep.
Lost Desert
Coltzans Shrine - Free random gift, one per day, normally not that great
Sakhmet City
Fruit machine - Free random gift, one per day. Sometimes gives out excellent gifts.
Tyrannia
Tyrannian Plateau
Giant Omelette - One free piece of omelette once a day. One portion of omelette gives three feeds.
Maraqua
Maraquan Ruins
Underwater Fishing - One guaranteed free item, normally one per day but with more than one Neopet sometimes you can get more. Nothing that good though, normally junk. Remember to cast your line again.
Mystery Island
Tombola - Random prize if you receive a ticket ending in 0, 2 or 5. Sometimes a booby prize is awarded if you don’t win, but not always.
The Lost City of Geraptiku
Deserted Tomb - Random items can be found here. Once a day. Please note that sometimes your active pet can lose hitpoints playing this daily, so make sure you haven't just been to the Healing Springs so you can heal them immediately if this happens.
Meridell
Turmaculus - Try to wake him using your petpet. On rare occasions the petpet can be eaten.
The Mysterious Symol Hole - Another petpet game. Not often successful either. ( http://www.neopets.com/medieval/symolhole.phtml in case you can't find it)
Meri Acres Farm
Rubbish Dump - Not often anything there.
Meridell Castle
Grumpy Old King - Tell him a joke using the drop down boxes. Very hard!
Brightvale
Brightvale Castle
Wise Old King - Easier than Grumpy Old King (Meridell) but still quite difficult.
FaerieLand
Healing Springs - Go here every half hour, click on Heal My Pets. Prizes include healing potions and extra hitpoints.
Rainbow Fountain - Not had anything from here yet, hints at something to be gained here when you bathe your pets.
JellyLand
A hidden land, use this link ( http://www.neopets.com/jelly/index.phtml )
Giant Jelly - one free random portion of jelly per day
Shenkuu
Lunar Temple - Try to guess what phase of the moon Neopia sees on the given diagram. Booby prizes are given for wrong answers, so it's worth a daily play. Link in case you need it: http://www.neopets.com/shenkuu/lunar/

The following link can be used once a month and will give members 2,000nps and a random item of food to each Neopet you own.

I found this link last night.

I'm not sure if the top links work, but the lower links are quite handy.
